Taken from the GP & J Baker archive and first hand block printed in the early 20th century as a special cloth for an interior decorator, ‘Tropical Floral’ shows flora and fauna from the African Continent including amaryllis, lily, cape primrose and banana & monstera palm leaves. Jungle themes became fashionable during the Second French Empire (1852-1870). This was due to the Great Exhibition of 1851, where global industry came together to show its very exotic wares, combined with the industrial age allowing travel and a great many explorers to conquer unknown territories.
