This lively tropical design features the Brugsmania shrub whose large, fragrant, trumpet-shaped flowers have earned it the name “Angel’s Trumpets”. Designed in 1913, by Stuart Proverbs who was Vice-President of the Society of Designers, it marked a new direction at the end of the Arts and Crafts era, when exotism and colour began to emerge. The pattern was orignally produced by GP & J Baker from four sets of 68 hand-blocks and remained in print from these orignal blocks into the 1960s.
