This design of exotic flowers and fruits displays the distinctive later style of C.F.A. Voysey, one of the most original and influential of the Arts and Crafts designers. His economical approach, using clear silhouettes with strong outlines, suited the new, clean-lined architect designed interiors. First produced in 1902 from a slightly earlier design, the orignal “Pumkins” was hand-block printed and was also produced as a woven muslin. Voysey remained active into the 1930s, but his Arts and Crafts period designs entered a phase of hibernation until his contemporary re-emergence as a design “superstar”.
